VACO

Personal Acknowledgements

I have to make my first acknowledgement to my very Dear, and understanding husband, Alan, who has
been so very supportive of me since that awful day back on the 12th April 2001 when I was diagnosed
with Vulval Cancer.

My world fell apart and he was always there to pick me and get me back on track with positive thoughts
and suggestions which I so badly needed.

He took so much psychological abuse off me and the odd pieces of crockery too, sorry Alan someone had
to get all the backlash of my frustration.
Yet he never once retaliated towards me just kept on being so very
supportive in every possible way.

I know, I could not have got through the following months of pain, frustration, anger,

fear and all the "Why me" questions, without him being by my side and Alan I really do thank you for all
your patience with me during them long 16 months of psychological trauma which I was struggling badly to come
to terms with.

Things have improved now and so much. I do still get "Those Black Days" but when they do occur he always
reminds me of how much I have come along since my initial diagnosis, which brings me back down to earth again.
He has since continued to support me in the expanding and the daily running of VACO and has given so much
of his precious time to help me when he could have been using his own precious time to do what he wanted to do.

He continues to tell females and males about what we have both been through, ,and to date he has given out
at least 5,000 +Self Examination Leaflets and he never ceases to maze
me just how much of his time he does
gives to the daily run
ning of VACO, Alan does the running and I do the easier jobs of course!!! He has never
once  complained about all the time I do devote to VACO.

Alan you have to be that
"One in a Million" Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Then comes my Very Dear Children Carl & Lisa who even through all of their own distress supported
me constantly through what has been the worse time of my life. Also my 3 dear sisters, Susan,
Julie & Jennifer who were also so supportive to me every step of the way during my recovery.

A very Special "Thank You" has to go to My Dear Mum who was always there for me and always told
me to carry on fighting for what I believed in.
(((Thank you Mum)))

I love you Millions

I also feel I also have to thank my Consultant who gave me my life saving operation, and always treated
me as Carol and not as a number! Also to all the nurses on The Eric Rawlings Ward who took extra
specia care of me, and especially to Marie who spent so much time with me encouraging me and
supporting me as did Kimberley too. I don't think I would have got through this time without these 2
very special nurses whose dedication went far beyond the call of their normal duty.

Our Love and Thanks to you all

TO ALL WHO HAVE DONATED TO VACO

~Elise~

~Lynda~

Who did a sposored bicycle ride from Manchester to Blackpool to help raise funding for VACO.
Your wonderful effort was very much
appreciated by us all, and we were all sorry you
had a sore butt for a while after.

We are all truly grateful for you efforts and you very kind donation to VACO

 ~Thanks to Macmillan~

VACO has recently received a huge cheque donated by Macmillan

VACO are truly grateful for this amount, which has now made VACO financially stable for at least
a year. The grant could not have come at a better time, as since August 2001 I have funded
VACO myself with the help of other ladies who have also been through the same surgery I have
had, and a few other very special people too.

You have not only financially assisted VACO you have also said, Yes we agree that the
valuable work that VACO does must continue and thanks to your donation, ladies in the UK
will now know how to
do a Vulva Self Exam as the leaflets will be going to print in the next
couple of weeks and then distribution will begin.

It will also help to send out information as and when it is requested, and also help to keep
“The Awareness” for vulval cancer in a higher profile than ever before.
Your donation will  help VACO is so many other ways too, and making Ladies aware
is what VACO is here to do
.

Many thanks to you all at Macmillan, for recognising the need
to make Ladies aware and assisting in that need financially.
We are all truly grateful to you

 We at VACO have named

~Cheryl  Gibbons~

which has a devastating affect on the ladies
diagnosed with it.
Cheryl’s time to complete
the marathon was an ACE!!! 4 hours 24 min 08 seconds
