CancerHelp UK

CancerHelp UK, www.cancerhelp.org.uk/  is one of the best cancer sites I have come across, and  has full patient input on every section the patient information. All the information is easy to understand and there are no long medical terms to confuse you.

They have nurses at the end of the phone to help, advise and support you, details below.

If you have a question about cancer? Call our team of Specialist Nurses on 020 7061 8355, or freephone
0808 800 4040.

Lines are open Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.

The website contains good quality Information on every single cancer, and links to so many support groups.

The patient information website of Cancer Research UK contains plenty of information on the facts on Vulval Cancer, surgery, ongoing treatments and very aspect you will need to know about your about your forthcoming surgery and treatment.

It also has had patient intput into the vulval cancer section which I was honoured to help with, and most important they listened and took on board everything I and I do feel they have one of the best and are more than willing to listen to the patients point of view and make changes which are beneficial to the patient, partner, carer and family.

This year some very good images have been added to the website to help you try to get some idea of where the incisions will take place with teh surgeries mentioned, but we are all treated as individuals so not all our treatments will be the same. I was really pleased when these images were added to the webiste as many ladies have asked me in the past what will I look like and where will the incisions be made, these  digarams I believe will give so many ladies an insight into what exactly their own treatement will entail.

The section is quite a large section, and it it as good idea to work through every single link in this section which will educate you about this cancer type and what to expect. You will also find some very useful suggested questions that have been written down for you to take to your Consultant and discuss them with him/her.

These are very useful questions for you to ask your Doctor, its is difficult when you are under so much stress and just after a cancer diganosis to remember all the questions you need to ask, so writing them down and going through them with your Doctor is one way you will be sure not to forget any of your questions, enabling you to leave your apppointment with all your questions asked.

Macmillan Support and Advice on Benefits

If you have been diagnosed with cancer, the last thing on your mind will be your finance’s. This can be said for any kind of cancer, the diagnosis comes along usually out of the blue, then the surgery and possibly more treatments take over your life, it can be a good few weeks if not months before you realise your income has dramatically been reduced.

To make calls and attend appointments can be very tiring and stressful, also trying to find out exactly what you are entitled to can also be a traumatic experience on top of all the added stress of the cancer diagnosis.
Thankfully, Macmillan, have brought out a new booklet, which is just a phone call away.

The booklet is called 'Help with the cost of cancer' It is a guide to benefits and financial help for people affected by cancer. To obtain your copy all you have to do is make a phone call to the new freephone number. The new service can be accessed by calling
Freephone 0808 808 2020 between 9-00am and 6-00pm Monday to Fridays.

A Link Language Line service helps callers in up to 150 languages. A textphone service is also available for deaf and hard of hearing people on
0808 808 0121. Some people may want medical information, or help with what questions to ask their doctor. Or they may need advice on caring for a loved one with cancer.

You will get as much help and advice as you need when you call this number as they are all trained advisors and will listen to all your concerns and also help you to deal with them all of them with the least amount of stress involved.

Macmillan has covered every benefit available in this booklet, and is also very easy to understand and offers a huge amount of the excellent advice we have become accustomed to receiving from MacMillan.
